Winter Morning Ritual

Mornings can be hard at the best of times, but when those chilly winter temperatures set in, getting out of bed can seem almost unbearable. That’s why we have created a simple morning ritual to help us all ease out of bed a little happier and start the day with energy and motivation.

1. PREPARE THE NIGHT BEFORE

After being encased in a warm cocoon of thick blankets all night, the icy bite
of dawn can make it nearly impossible to exit our cosy hibernation.  To help ease
the transition, we recommend pulling out your favourite slippers and fluffy robe the night before and place them close to your bedside.  This way, you can even put your robe on while you are still wrapped up in bed and your feet won’t need to hit the cold floor.

Another simple tip is to have a glass of water next to your bed ready for you to drink when you first wake up.  This easy habit will not only help to rehydrate your body but also stimulate your metabolism, promote digestion and the removal
of toxins.

2. LEAVE YOUR PHONE ALONE

We have all been the perpetrators of this modern-day habit, but using your phone to wake up in the morning is one of the best ways to disrupt your sleep routine. The artificial blue light emitted will supress melatonin production that in turn can make it harder to fall asleep and wake up naturally.

It is for sure a hard habit to break but well worth the discipline.

We should aim to not touch our phones an hour before bed and an hour after
waking up.

Try reading a book before and after sleep to help replace the habit with something else.

3. A WARM DRINK AND MORNING SUN

Nothing feels more satisfying than warming up from the inside out.  Boil the kettle and make yourself your favourite nourishing hot drink.  Sip on a cup of tea or hot cacao with honey and feel the warmth travel through your body.

Take your hot beverage outside with you to soak up some of winters’ beautiful early morning sun. This natural light exposure first thing in the morning will signal your mind to wake up and prepare for the day ahead.

4. MORNING MOVEMENT AND A WARM SHOWER

Cold mornings can trigger body stiffness and uncomfortable aches and pains, so it is vital to start the day with some light stretching and exercise.  This can encourage the blood to flow and will help you to feel more energized and ready to take on the day ahead.

Reward yourself with a warm shower to soothe the body and mind (try to resist the urge to scald yourself in boiling water – we know it feels good but can be drying to your hair and skin).  To up the moisture content for your hair and scalp we recommend using a deeply nourishing shampoo and conditioner like our EverEscents Moisture or Berry Blonde Range.  This will help your hair to overcome some of the drying winter side effects.  An extra treatment boost goes a long way too 😊

We hope this is encouraging to you and can help ease the morning winter blues we all find ourselves in sometimes – and stay cosy everyone!
