Plastic Free July – Simplifying the low-tox lifestyle

Plastic Free July

Committing to minimising your plastic waste can be a daunting prospect. There’s no doubt we all love the ease and efficiency of packaged and disposable convenience goods, particularly as we hurtle along on the journey towards faster-paced lifestyles than ever before.

However, living a low-tox lifestyle doesn’t just benefit you, it also benefits our planet and will do for generations to come. When you break it down, it’s the small changes and switch in thinking that make the biggest impact.

So, what IS low-tox living? We believe it is about making conscious, informed decisions and choices around what you place in and around your body and home and understanding the impact of toxins and plastic waste on your wellbeing and the environment.

Choosing low-tox options supports sustainable practices and helps reduce your ecological footprint. By opting for eco-friendly alternatives, you contribute to a cleaner and healthier planet.

This year, the Plastic Free July campaign ‘Small steps, big difference’ kicks off with an invitation to join millions of people worldwide taking steps towards ending plastic pollution.  Plastic Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. It is free to take part in the challenge, all you need to do is sign up on their website and pledge to reduce your waste. You can take the Pesky Plastic Quiz to discover the items you use and decide what you’d like to choose to refuse.

This small step for July may lead to a snowball effect to live a more low-tox life, every month of the year.

One of the best ways to keep yourself motivated is to share your journey with someone. Tell your friends and family about your initiative, encourage them to join you, hold each other accountable. This can be a fun way to challenge each other, especially around Plastic Free July.

Choosing to live a low-tox life should be as easy as brushing your teeth. There is so much information on the internet, podcasts and in books that it can be overwhelming at times. On average, Australians generate 2.7 tonnes of waste each year. By choosing to refuse you can dramatically reduce your own ecological footprint.
